Peter Valdes (72-A)

Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas...

We've heard about your very distinguished educational career.   When did you leave UP?

Finished BSIE (cumlaude) in Oct 1975. Have an MS in IE/OR from Syracuse University (New York), an MS in Computer Science also from Syracuse Univ., and a PhD Candidate (in Software Engineering) at Syracuse Univ. After finishing college at UP, I taught for 2 semesters at the College of Eng'g. I left UP towards the end of 1976 or early 1977.

Who were your contemporaries?

Brods I remember: Benjie Cariaso, Victor Tablante, Enrico Martin, Danilo Dungca, Fermin Villapando, Tony Rapadas, Argie Frianeza

What was the college and UP like then?

The college (i.e. UP College of Engg) then was a lot smaller in population compared to what it is today. I heard that today the UP College of Engg is the 2nd largest college in the University. Back then, professors like Pacheco, Baguio, Pascual, Bulatao, Juinio, S. Reyes, Manlapaz, Hedriana (and other old-timers) were still teaching at the college. Frequently, classes get disrupted due to student rallies and demonstrations.

How is your collection hobby doing?

I enjoy collecting Records/CDs from the 50's, 60's and 70's. I'm also into collecting old movies and books. I enjoy travel and reading. Professionally, I'm into software development and entrepreneurship.

Inuman on your free time?

I don't have a lot of free time. When I do, I spend it on my hobbies or with my family.

We understand you're into the IT business?

I'm currently a Software Entrepreneur based in Austin, Texas (USA). Have founded a number of Software startups located in the US and in the Philippines. Lately, I visit Manila on a regular basis to oversee the software companies I started in the Phil.

How are the kids and family?

Married to Rosel Henson Valdes. Have two kids Phoebe (11) and Peter II (9). They are all based in Austin, TX.

What do you remember most being a brod?

Still remember our fraternity parties and the regular lunches with the brods at the Ipil dining hall.

What is your most memorable experience with the fraternity?

The fraternity hazing of course.

Any message for the brothers?

Back in the early 70's when I joined the fraternity, EMC2 was a small & relatively unknown fraternity at the UP College of Engineering. Recently, I heard from a few brods that EMC2 at present is one of the largest fraternities in the college. I want to congratulate all our brods in making EMC2 what it is today.
